Problem:
BMI Healthcare, a group of 50 private hospitals in the UK, had three major enterprise data sharing projects: 1) BMI needed to implement a new web-based patient scheduling system; 2) establish an enterprise master patient index (EMPI) to provide a master patient identifier for every patient system-wide; and 3) provide two-way, real-time connectivity to the incumbent PAS in each of BMI's 50 hospitals as well as real-time connectivity to a series of NHS services.

Solution:
ClearSpan Server provides the integration layer that acquires, converts and transfers data to and from 13 separate hospital applications, the new UltraGenda Pro scheduling system and the Initiate EMPI engine across all 50 of BMI's hospitals.

Problem:
The Scottish NHS needed a nationwide results reporting system with unique characteristics. The decision was made to develop a system on a robust integration platform. The NHS chose ClearSpan Server as the most scalable technology. The result is SCI-Store (pronounced Sky Store), serving more than 10,000 caregivers a day throughout Scotland. SCI-Store supports clinical communication; Electronic Patient Record (EPR); and Electronic Health Record (EHR) Development.

Solution:
As the nation-wide integration layer for SCI-Store, BridgeForward's ClearSpan Server acts as the 'spine' that allows all Scottish hospitals to 'unlock' and share data from existing legacy systems and make it available to clinicians and GPs via a browser-based national results reporting system. The unlocked data is fed to the information repository via ClearSpan Server, where it may be queried by authorized users. Data held in the information repository is made available for a variety of services including Out of Hours provision.

Problem:
Nuffield Hospitals, the second largest group of independent acute care hospitals in the United Kingdom (39 hospital sites), wanted to implement an entirely new suite of administrative and clinical systems. Initially, the strategy called for the installation of a major new PACs/RIS system from Agfa Healthcare to allow Nuffield to store and share images within its own network and with the UK?s National Care records Service. The supporting infrastructure included the implementation of a Master Patient Index; a dictation solution; and a pathology application. Each newly installed system required fault-tolerant connectivity to Nuffield Patient Administration System (PAS) provided by iSoft.

Solution:
BridgeForward's ClearSpan Server integration engine was chosen to provide the connectivity to and from each of the new applications as well as the existing PAS system. ClearSpan Server acquires, converts and transfers data to and from each of these applications throughout the Nuffield Hospital network on a hosted basis, including iSoft, Initiate EMPI, Agfa PACS, PowerScribe and Clinisys Pathology.
